Bible in a Year: Genesis 1-24
Welcome to Week 1 of our one-year Bible reading plan! This week, we’re diving into Genesis chapters 1 through 24, an incredible section that lays the foundation for understanding God’s story. Whether this is your first time reading the Bible or you’ve been studying it for years, I’m so excited to walk alongside you as we explore these key chapters.
In Genesis 1-24, we encounter some of the Bible’s most iconic stories:
Creation (Genesis 1-2): We see God as the Creator of everything. Humanity is uniquely made in His image, a profound truth that defines our identity and purpose. As you read, notice how being made in God’s image sets the stage for understanding our relationship with Him and each other.
The Fall (Genesis 3): Humanity’s disobedience introduces sin into the world, breaking the harmony of creation. From a supernatural worldview, the fall begins a cosmic rebellion that ripples through human history.
The Flood (Genesis 6-9): In response to humanity’s corruption, God cleanses the earth through the flood but preserves Noah and his family. This event highlights both God’s justice and mercy, as well as His plan to restore what was lost.
The Tower of Babel (Genesis 11): Here we see humanity’s prideful attempt to unify against God’s will. From a supernatural perspective, this event represents a turning point where the nations are disinherited and dispersed, paving the way for God’s plan to work through Abraham.
The Call of Abraham (Genesis 12-24): God’s covenant with Abraham marks the beginning of His redemptive plan for the nations. Abraham’s story introduces the themes of faith, promise, and God’s faithfulness.
Key Themes to Watch For:
Made in God’s Image: This theme threads through all of Scripture, shaping how we view our identity and purpose.
God’s Sovereignty and Grace: Even amidst humanity’s failures, God’s plan remains unshaken.
The Link Between the Fall, Flood, and Babel: These events show the unfolding of rebellion and God’s response in setting apart a people through Abraham.
As you read, take time to reflect on these stories and how they reveal God’s character and plan for the world. If you have questions or insights, I’d love to hear from you! This is a great opportunity to explore your thoughts further and deepen your understanding.
