God Our Contentment
There is an eagerness to meeting Jesus. When you know He’s showing up and your life isn’t going to be the same after that encounter. I aim for every single gathering at Cornerstone to be that way for not only me, but for anyone willing to open their heart and go after Him. It was with that heart I prepared in the morning to leave. I woke up at 3am and by 3:30 I called it quits on trying to go back to sleep. Prayer, breakfast, coffee, worship and some studying followed and I was off to the church building.
There’s something about arriving before anyone else that brings some anticipation. Who’s going to show up? What’s the day and gathering going to be like. As I set some things up and prayed over the building, one by one the set up team began to trickle in. I can’t express how incredible it is to have people who are willing to sacrifice their time and heart for getting things set up for others to enter in.
Marco was the first to enter in and dropping off a storage bin, his deep voice gave me a hello and when I saw him, I had a heart of gratitude for someone who would be the first out the door, get to storage and deliver all the stuff we need for the day.
As the last pastry was being set perfectly in place and the smell of coffee filled the lobby, everyone headed towards the room for prayer. I decided we should worship before we prayed, so we lifted our voices in worship and prayer, and with our hearts set on Him, we petitioned our great God to bless our time and prepare the hearts of everyone there to receive Jesus and all He wanted to do.
King of Kings resounded as we joined in singing and it was so good to proclaim Christ risen and His victory. After that and some smiles and hugs from each other, we took our seats to receive the teaching of the Word. Today I announced our plan for next year to read the Bible in a year (more details to come), and do an overview study of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation in 2025. We’re all very excited to get to know His Word better and be changed by it’s power!
I taught today on “God Our Contentment”. How we handle our finances can be an act of worship. In the sermon, I shared how contentment and gratitude lead us to worship God, while greed pulls us away from Him. I beleive it challenged our hearts and encouraged us a the same time with who God is in regards to our provider. You can listen to the sermon here.
After the teaching, we all took communion toghether, something I and many others have come to enjoy very much each Sunday. It’s such an important reminder of what Christ did for us and the covenant we have because of His sacrifce. With that, we worshiped with all our hearts and had a wonderful encounter with His presence.
After some second rounds on the coffee and treats, we all packed it up and headed our ways; challenged in how we can trust God as our provider and return to Him what He’s given us, as a worship rooted in contentment for what He’s done for us.
